Jasmina Stojanov Jessy is a successful business woman, who once was considered to be a domineering figure of “the seventh force” Even though she thinks of it as ungrounded, journalists considered her to be “the Iron Lady” of the President’s cabinet. She says that she approached this important job with an extremely high level of responsibility and conscientiousness. This is why she contacted journalists only on business matters what was often misunderstood. Upon withdrawal from the Cabinet of the President, she continues her career as the director of a public relations agency, which is her greatest love, next to journalism. Today, she is the owner and director of the marketing agency “Nova PR”, which confirms that a woman can be successful leading a company, without the help of a man or political backup and this is exactly why many admire her.
For years, you were the head of the PR team of the former President of Serbia, Boris Tadić. What has the performance of such an important job given you in life?
It gave me an exceptional and unique experience. During the eight years of working in the president’s cabinet, together with the President’s advisor Nebojša Krstić, I had the opportunity to work constantly, 24/7/365, on the so called crisis PR. The fact that the President remained the most popular politician in Serbia throughout the period, despite the economic crisis and very unpopular moves, such as the termination of cooperation with the International Court Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia, is the fact I count as our huge success. When I summarize it all, work in five pre-election campaigns in which we won and everyday work in the cabinet, I think that there is no one among PR professionals in Serbia and on the regional level, who could measure up to Nebojša and me, neither by effects nor by the range of work.
What have you learned through your work at such an important position?
I joined the presidential cabinet as a journalist in 2003, and left in 2012, as a “case-hardened” PR professional. I learned to think politically, I learned to analyze the context, and to predict crisis. I also learned to prevent the crisis, and to fight it, diminishing its consequences to the least possible level. I like to take pride in my Letter of Appreciation received from the Vice-President of United States of America, Joseph Biden, as well as compliments for successful cooperation from the cabinet of the Russian President, Vladimir Putin.
According to the media, after the cessation of mandate of President Tadić, your former boss stopped his communication with you. What is the truth?
I worked in the cabinet of President Tadić as long as he was the President of the state. After that, I went down my professional path. We were never friends, but had a professional relation, in which he was my boss.
