Miodrag KostićKada je pre tačno 30 godina diplomirani ekonomista Miodrag Kostić osnovao MK Group, vodio se idejom da „Ko ne krene, taj i ne stigne“ – koje se drži i danas, kada je njegova kompanija jedna od najvećih u Srbiji i kada posluje širom sveta. Diplomirao je sa ocenom 10 na temu postavljanja informatičkog sistema u šećerani u Vrbasu. Ni slutio nije da će, decenijama kasnije, postati „srpski kralj šećera“. Novi izazovi, težak rad i mudro osmišljavanje strategije – toga se gospodin Kostić uvek drži, jer najveće uspehe tek očekuje. Do tada, stigne i da jedri, roni i skija svuda u svetu, a naročito na Kopaoniku, koji je njegova velika ljubav.

Smatrate li da ste se ostvarili kao privrednik, ili postoje još neki poslovni ciljevi koji tek treba da se realizuju u nekoj daljoj perspektivi?

Na teniskom terenu, ukoliko stojite u mestu, i ne krećete se, gubite igru. Tako je i u biznisu, ako zastanete i zadovoljite se postojećim uspesima, veoma brzo gubite korak sa okruženjem i neko će Vas sustići. Zato živim i radim u skladu sa krilaticom „Ko ne krene, taj i ne stigne“! Daleko od toga da nisam zadovoljan učinjenim, ali mi imamo još mnogo toga da kažemo u biznisu. Znate, postići rezultat nije lako, ali održati ga i trajati, višestruko je teže. Već treću deceniju trajemo i možda to smatram najvećom vrednošću. Najveće uspehe tek očekujem u godinama koje dolaze.

Svaki ostvareni biznismen će reći da je najteže zaraditi prvi milion. Ali, važi li kod nas pravilo „Ne pitajte me kako sam zaradio taj prvi million“, sa prizvukom da se početni kapital stiče „sa one strane zakona“. Kako je izgledala Vaša poslovna odiseja i koliko je teži taj put, kada niste u onoj pomenutoj kategoriji?

MK Group svoje korene ima u maloj porodičnoj firmi za proizvodnju flipsa koju sam osnovao 1983. godine, a danas je to holding koji se bavi strateškim vođenjem poslovanja i korporativnim upravljanjem u oblasti poljoprivrede, šećerne i mesne industrije, turizma, upravljanja nekretninama, IT tehnologije, finansija i obnovljivih izvora energije. MK Group trenutno zauzima dominantni udeo u tržištu u Srbiji, od čega je 50 odsto u šećeru, a 20 odsto u drugim proizvodima i robi. Od 2006. godine, poslovanje smo proširli i na zemlje Ukrajine i Rusije. Danas, održiv rast i profitabilnost koju je MK Group ostvarila od svog nastanka, jasni su pokazatelji efikasnog poslovanja i strateškog rukovođenja tokom prethodne tri decenije.

Na čelu ste jedne od najvećih kompanija u Srbiji, ali i drugim tržištima na kojima poslujete. Rekli ste: „Biznis je igra strategije sa mnogo akcije, problemskih situacija i adrenalina, koja zahteva vizionarski i timski duh kao i veliku posvećenost radu i upornost.

Ja sam sebi, oduvek, postavljao visoke ciljeve i nemam namere da stanem“ – zvuči kao da ništa ne doživljavate samo kao posao, kao da Vam je to način života.

A Three Decade Long Chess Match

Miodrag Kostić graduated economy exactly thirty years ago. When he founded MK Group, his leading idea was “If you don’t start off, you will never arrive”, a principle that he applies still today, when his company is one of the largest in Serbia and it operates all around the world. He graduated with the grade 10 for a project on the installation of an computer system at the sugar factory of Vrbas. Back then he did not even suspect that he would become “the Serbian King of Sugar”. New challenges, hard work and wise strategy planning are the words that can characterize Mr. Kostić, because his greatest successes are still ahead. Until then, he still has time to sail, dive and ski all around the world, especially in Kopaonik, which is his great love.

Do you consider that you have fulfilled yourself as a businessman or are there any business goals that you should fulfill at long term?

On the tennis field, if you stand still and do not move, you will lose the game. It is the same in businesses. If you stop, because you are satisfied with your current successes, you will lose your position and someone will catch you up soon. That is why I live according to the proverb “If you don’t start off, you will never arrive”! It is not that I am not satisfied with what I have done, but we have still so much to say in the world of businesses. You know, achieving a result is difficult, but maintaining that result is much more difficult. We have endured for three decades and I consider that this is our greatest value. Our largest successes will come in the coming years.

Any fulfilled businessman will say that the most difficult was to earn the first million. Would you also say “Don’t ask me how I earned my first million”, implying that the first capital comes “from the other side of the law”? How does your business Odyssey look like and how difficult is that path, when you do not belong to the aforementioned category?

MK Group has its root in a small family company for the production of flips, which I founded in 1983 and nowadays it is a holding that carries out strategic businesses and corporative administration in the field of agriculture, sugar and meat industry, tourism, real-estate management, IT, finances and renewable energy resources. MK Group currently holds a dominant position in the Serbian market, with 50% of its activities in the sugar sector and 20% in other products and goods. From 2006 we have expanded our activities to Ukraine and Russia. The sustainable growth and profitability that MK Group has had from the beginning are clear proofs of efficient operations and strategic administration during the last three decades.

You head one of the largest companies in Serbia and other markets, where you operate. You said “Business is a strategic game with many actions, problematic situations and adrenaline, which requires vision and team spirit, as well as persistence and a great dedication to work.

I have always set very high goals for myself and I have no intentions to stop doing so” – That sounds as if you do not see it as a work, but as a way of life.
